Marist have bounced back in the best way possible, beating high-flying Stoke 41-30 at Trafalgar Park last night.

Wakatu Hotel Marist were heavily beaten by Star & Garter Waimea Old Boys last Saturday but have put that behind them to edge the previously unbeaten Freeman Roofing Stoke in the third round club rugby clash.

Two late breaks by halfback Shawn Begg set up tries to Jackson Harvey and then a penalty try to give Marist the win.

In Brightwater, Taylor’s Contracting Wanderers got their first win of the season, beating Galbraith Group Nelson 27-7. Wanderers went into the game with a loss and a draw, while Nelson are now firmly rooted at the foot of the Car Company division one ladder with three losses.

Out in Riwaka, the Waimea juggernaut steamed on to win the clash of the only two teams to win their first two games. Kahurangi never looked like they were in the contest, eventually losing 48-10.

All the senior club rugby games were played on Thursday night this week so players and supporters could enjoy the long Easter weekend.
