The swimming pool at Hampden St is officially open for business.
The pool opens today for the summer and, despite the sometimes cool temperatures outside at this time of year, those in the pool won’t feel it as it’s fully heated.
The pool is the only outdoor swimming pool in Nelson city which has lifeguards on duty when it’s open to the public, but another major selling point is the heating that sees the main pool sit at 26 degrees.
“It’s safe, it’s family friendly, it’s just a great place to be,” says Nelson South Swimming Club recorder, Fiona Lulham.
The club runs the pool on behalf of the school and opens it to the public every day of the week. The pool is also the home to the Patterson Swim School.
The Nelson South Swimming Club was also a winner in the Car Company $10,000 Charity Drive this year, and with the winnings they’ve ordered some inflatables to help attract more families this summer.
“We were really fortunate to get some money from the Car Company so we’ve used that to buy some really cool inflatables, it’s like a big obstacle course,” says Fiona.
The pool is now open to the public from 3pm to 4pm on Monday to Friday and on weekends from 12noon to 4pm.
A family pass for the season is $150 and that’s for the whole family as many times as they like. Or it’s $2 to $3 for kids and $4 for adults each time.
