Final push for #Gigatown

Keep up your hashtags for #GIGATOWNNSN and go online to do the quiz — that’s the message from volunteers as the final five goes down to the wire.

Nelson is currently in fifth place on the Gigatown standings — where the eventual winner will have cheap access to giga-fibre and receive a $200,000 development fund — but needs to stay there by September 12 in order to make the cut.

Five finalists will be named after that date, and will then go head-to-head for another month or so before the winner is announced.

Gigatown Nelson volunteer Karen Lee says there has been so much support from people and businesses across the community, and it’d be great to make the final.

“We’re very lucky because we’ve had such good grassroots support. This competition is aiming to build strong online communities and we’ve got that,” she says.

The Gigatown Nelson office is open during the week for more information, but the most effective way to actually support the cause is to visit gigatown.co.nz, choose Nelson as your town and then take part in the quiz.

“We’re awfully keen to encourage people to come along and do the August quiz. On its own it’s worth 250 points, so anybody who wants to get involved still can.”
