Ten thousand dollars will be given to charity in Nelson this winter, thanks to the Car Company $10,000 Charity Drive.

The million dollar question is which groups will be in with a shot?

The Car Company has teamed up with The Breeze and Nelson Weekly to find the winner and applications for the charity drive are now open until August 22.

Last year, dozens of applicants pleaded their case and Car Company owner Shane Drummond thinks it will only get bigger this year. “We’re giving away ten grand, it’s a lot of money and will make a huge difference to local groups, so we’re really keen to make sure we get a good amount of entries.”

Nominees could also have their story told in the pages of Nelson Weekly and on The Breeze radio station with announcer Breffni O’Rourke.

Shane says all of those who entered last year are invited to do so again and that the entries need to be of a high standard. “Last year we were blown away with the entries and the number of great charities who do fantastic work in our community.”

He says the Car Company was keen to give the money away again this year as part of its commitment to the community. “This really opens it to the wider community and we’re really excited about that.”

Once applications close, a judging panel will decide which local charity will win the money.
