Your locally owned community newspaper has bucked the trend of newspapers world-wide as its circulation continues to rise, this month smashing past 30,000 copies.

That means the Nelson Weekly and Waimea Weekly, the only locally owned newspapers in Nelson, go into more than 30,000 homes, with hundreds of extras dropped off at points in Stoke, Richmond and the CBD and to businesses.

Chief executive and publisher of the newspapers Steve Page says the increase is due to reader demand and is a great sign that Nelsonians are getting behind a newspaper owned and operated by Nelsonians.

“Nelson folk are very good at supporting Nelson businesses if the product or service is up to scratch. We have been running for almost seven years now and we’ve proven that we deliver results for advertisers and carry great, interesting stories. That means demand for the papers keeps growing and now has a circulation which has busted through the 30,000 mark, a great milestone for the newspapers.”

The Weeklys are delivered to every home from Rai Valley to Murchison and across to the Moutere Valley, giving fantastic coverage to the region’s readers and advertisers.

The boost in circulation is another milestone for the Weekly, after winning the Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce Award for best emerging business last November.

Steve says any businesses that haven’t used the Weeklys for advertising should give it a go.

“We are now one of the largest privately owned newspaper groups in the country and provide a massive platform for potential advertisers to get their message across. Our current advertisers are getting the benefits of advertising in a newspaper that goes to so many homes and we are keen to help other businesses with their marketing.”

Steve says another major reason for the papers’ success is interesting stories that people want to read and says he encourages anyone with any story ideas to get in touch.
